Terms of Service
The legal agreement governing your use of the Milanse platform
Milanse is a serious matrimonial platform — not a dating app. All users must be 18+ (females) or 21+ (males), unmarried/divorced/widowed, and must complete mandatory Aadhaar-based identity verification before their profile is made visible to others.
1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement under the Indian Contract Act, 1872 between you ("User", "you") and Milanse Private Limited ("Milanse", "we", "us", "our"), governing your access to and use of the Milanse matrimonial platform, website, mobile application, and all associated services (collectively, the "Platform"). By registering for an account, clicking "I Agree", or otherwise using the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Community Guidelines, and all other policies referenced herein. These Terms apply to all users including visitors, registered users, and premium subscribers.
IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS IN THEIR ENTIRETY, YOU MUST NOT ACCESS OR USE THE PLATFORM. Your continued use after any amendment to these Terms constitutes acceptance of the amended Terms.
2. Eligibility Requirements
To use the Platform, you must satisfy ALL of the following conditions at all times:
Family members (parents, siblings, relatives) may create or manage a profile on behalf of a prospective bride or groom, but only with that person's explicit knowledge and consent. The person on whose behalf the profile is created is the "User" and is bound by these Terms.
- •Age: You must be at least 18 years of age. Male users must be at least 21 years of age, consistent with the minimum marriageable age under Indian matrimonial laws including the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 and the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
- •Marital Status: You must be unmarried, legally divorced, or widowed. Individuals in a legally subsisting marriage are not permitted to create a profile or use the Platform.
- •Capacity: You must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract under Indian law — i.e., you must be of sound mind and not be disqualified from contracting by any law.
- •Jurisdiction: You must be a citizen or resident of India, or an Indian diaspora member (OCI/PIO/NRI) using the Platform for matrimonial purposes within the Gahoi Baniya community (or such other community as the Platform may expand to serve).
- •Not Banned: You must not have been previously suspended or permanently banned from the Platform for violation of these Terms or applicable law.
- •One Account Per Person: You may only maintain one active account on the Platform at any time. Creating multiple accounts is a serious violation.
3. Account Registration & Security
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update it promptly if it changes. You are solely responsible for:
- •Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials (phone number + OTP, email/password, passkey).
- •All activities that occur under your account, whether or not you authorised them.
- •Immediately notifying us at security@milanse.com of any suspected unauthorised access to your account.
- •Ensuring you log out from shared devices after each session.
We reserve the right to suspend accounts where we detect unusual login activity, suspected credential compromise, or identity inconsistency. We will notify you via your registered phone or email in such cases.
4. Mandatory Identity Verification
Verification is not optional. No profile will be made visible to other users until the User has completed all mandatory verification steps:
We reserve the right to reject any profile at our sole discretion if verification standards are not met. We may request additional documentation. Once rejected, users may appeal once by emailing appeals@milanse.com with supporting evidence.
- •Step 1 — Document Verification: Submit one of the following: Aadhaar eKYC (via DigiLocker), Aadhaar Offline XML, Passport, OCI Card, or PAN Card. Our system will perform OCR, field matching, and a deduplication check.
- •Step 2 — Live Selfie: Submit a live selfie which is checked for liveness and matched against your verification document.
- •Step 3 — Manual Review: Every profile is reviewed by our human moderation team before being approved. This typically takes 24–72 hours.
Verification Badge Tiers
We operate a tiered badge system. Bronze Badge (baseline): issued after document + selfie + admin review. Silver Badge: issued after verified education document submission. Gold Badge: issued after verified income document submission. Higher badges improve your trust score and visibility in recommendations.
Re-verification
We reserve the right to require re-verification of your identity if your account has been inactive for more than 6 months, if 3 or more verified users report your profile within 30 days, or if our automated systems detect suspicious activity. Failure to complete re-verification within 30 days may result in account suspension.
5. Profile Rules & Content Standards
Your profile is your representation on the Platform. You agree that:
- •All information in your profile is truthful, accurate, and up to date.
- •Photos must be your own clear, recent photos. You must be the only identifiable person in your primary photo.
- •You will not upload photos of other people, celebrities, copyrighted images, or images that are digitally altered to misrepresent your appearance.
- •Your profile description and prompts must not contain contact information (phone numbers, email, social media handles, external links) — this is to protect both you and other users.
- •You will update your profile promptly if your marital status changes (e.g., if you get married or engaged through the Platform or otherwise).
- •You will not represent yourself as someone of a different gender, age, or community.
- •Family member bios must clearly indicate they are managing the profile on behalf of the prospective bride/groom and must not contain false information about the candidate.
6. Prohibited Conduct
The following conduct is strictly prohibited on the Platform and may result in immediate account termination and, where applicable, reporting to law enforcement. "You agree not to" as used below means any action you take directly or through another person:
Fraud & Misrepresentation
- -Create a fake, impersonating, or fictitious profile
- -Submit forged, manipulated, or borrowed identity documents
- -Misrepresent your marital status, age, income, education, or any other profile field
- -Operate a profile on behalf of someone without their knowledge
- -Create multiple accounts
Harassment & Abuse
- -Send unsolicited, offensive, sexual, or harassing messages to other users
- -Threaten, intimidate, stalk, or otherwise harass other users on or off the Platform
- -Share another user's personal information (including their photos, phone number, or location) without their consent
- -Post or transmit content that is defamatory, obscene, hateful, or discriminatory
- -Use abusive, vulgar, or threatening language in any communication
Commercial & Spam Activity
- -Use the Platform for commercial solicitation, advertising, or multi-level marketing
- -Send bulk or automated messages to multiple users
- -Contact users for purposes other than genuine matrimonial inquiry
- -Offer or accept money in exchange for marriage, profiles, or connections through the Platform
Technical Violations
- -Use bots, scrapers, automated scripts, or any automated means to access the Platform
- -Attempt to circumvent verification, rate limits, security measures, or access controls
- -Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the Platform
- -Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Platform without our written authorisation
- -Introduce malware, viruses, or harmful code into the Platform
- -Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' accounts
Legal Violations
- -Use the Platform for any purpose that violates applicable Indian or international law
- -Engage in dowry negotiation through the Platform (prohibited under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961)
- -Use the Platform to facilitate child marriage or contact with minors
- -Post content that violates copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights
- -Engage in any conduct that could give rise to civil or criminal liability
7. User Content & Licence
You retain all ownership rights in the content you upload to the Platform ("User Content"), including your profile photos, bio, and responses to profile prompts. By uploading User Content, you grant Milanse a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, sublicensable licence to use, copy, process, display, distribute, and create derivative works of your User Content solely for the purpose of operating, improving, and promoting the Platform. This licence terminates when you delete the content or your account (subject to our data retention obligations). You represent and warrant that:
We may use anonymised and aggregated success stories (with your explicit consent) for marketing and promotional purposes. We will never use your identifiable profile photos in advertising without your separate written consent.
- •You own or have the necessary rights to upload the User Content.
- •The User Content does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or applicable law.
- •You have obtained the consent of any identifiable individuals in your photos (other than yourself).
- •The User Content is not defamatory, obscene, or otherwise harmful.
8. Intellectual Property
All content, software, features, design elements, and functionality of the Platform — including but not limited to the brand name "Milanse", logo, AI matching algorithms, compatibility scoring methodology, UI design, and written content — are owned by Milanse Private Limited or its licensors and are protected under Indian and international intellectual property laws, including the Copyright Act, 1957 and the Trade Marks Act, 1999. You may not reproduce, distribute, create derivative works, publicly display, or exploit any part of the Platform without our prior written consent. Nothing in these Terms grants you any ownership or licence rights in Milanse's intellectual property.
9. Third-Party Services & Links
The Platform integrates with third-party services (including DigiLocker for Aadhaar eKYC, Razorpay for payments, AWS Rekognition for photo verification, MSG91 for SMS, and WhatsApp Business for notifications). Your use of these third-party services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of any third-party service providers. The Platform may also contain links to third-party websites; we do not endorse and are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any linked website.
10. Subscriptions, Payments & Free Tier
The Platform operates on a freemium model:
Free Tier
All verified users get access to a free tier with daily limits: 10 interests per day, 50 messages per day, 5 AI match recommendations per day, and basic search filters.
First 1,000 Lifetime Free Users
The first 1,000 users who complete full verification on the Platform receive Lifetime Free access, which provides permanent access to all free tier features without time limits, and selected premium features as detailed on the Pricing page. This offer is non-transferable and cannot be combined with paid plans. The 1,000-user count is tracked in real-time and closes automatically once the threshold is reached.
Premium Subscriptions
Premium subscriptions are offered on monthly and annual terms. Prices are displayed in Indian Rupees (INR) inclusive of all applicable taxes. Subscriptions are processed through Razorpay. By subscribing, you authorise Razorpay to charge your payment method on the applicable recurring billing cycle.
Auto-Renewal
Premium subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date through Settings > Subscription > Cancel Plan. We will send a reminder notification 7 days before renewal.
Price Changes
We reserve the right to change subscription prices. We will provide at least 30 days' notice of any price increase. Continued use of the subscription after the new price takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the new price.
11. Refund & Cancellation
Please review our full Refund & Cancellation Policy at /refund-policy. Key terms:
- •Annual plan purchases are eligible for a full refund within 7 days of purchase if you have not used any premium features during that period.
- •Monthly plan purchases are non-refundable.
- •Subscriptions cancelled mid-period remain active until the end of the current billing period; no pro-rated refunds are issued.
- •The Lifetime Free offer is non-refundable and non-transferable.
- •Accounts suspended for violation of these Terms are not eligible for any refund.
- •Refund requests must be submitted to billing@milanse.com with your transaction ID.
12. Platform Availability & Modifications
We strive to maintain 99.5% uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the Platform. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature or the entire Platform at any time with reasonable notice. Scheduled maintenance windows will be communicated at least 24 hours in advance. We are not liable for any loss resulting from Platform downtime, technical errors, or feature discontinuation.
13. Privacy
Your use of the Platform is subject to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Platform, you consent to our data practices as described in the Privacy Policy. You acknowledge that we handle your Aadhaar data, biometric data, and other sensitive personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable Indian law.
14. Platform as Intermediary (IT Act Section 79)
Milanse operates as an intermediary under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the IT (Intermediary Guidelines) Rules, 2021. As an intermediary, we provide a platform for users to connect for matrimonial purposes; we do not initiate, select, modify, or endorse any user-to-user communication or profile content. We are not liable for any content posted by users, except to the extent provided under applicable law. We comply with all obligations of intermediaries under the IT Act, including publishing these Terms and our Privacy Policy, appointing a Grievance Officer, and taking down unlawful content upon receiving actual knowledge or a court order.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Milanse verifies identity documents and selfies, but we do not independently verify every claim made in user profiles (such as income, education, or family background). Verification reduces but does not eliminate the risk of false information. Users must independently verify important claims before making matrimonial decisions. We strongly recommend meeting in a safe public place with family present.
15. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR UNINTERRUPTED ACCESS. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT: (A) THE PLATFORM WILL MEET YOUR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS; (B) THE PLATFORM WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE; (C) THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE PLATFORM WILL BE ACCURATE OR RELIABLE; (D) ANY PARTICULAR MATCH WILL BE COMPATIBLE OR SUITABLE FOR YOU; OR (E) ANY USER'S PROFILE INFORMATION IS ACCURATE OR COMPLETE, NOTWITHSTANDING OUR VERIFICATION MEASURES.
16. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE INDIAN LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MATRIMONY, ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO: (A) YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE, THE PLATFORM; (B) ANY CONDUCT OR CONTENT OF ANY THIRD PARTY ON THE PLATFORM, INCLUDING OTHER USERS; (C) ANY CONTENT OBTAINED FROM THE PLATFORM; OR (D) UNAUTHORISED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR TRANSMISSIONS OR CONTENT.
OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE PLATFORM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO MATRIMONY IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM. FOR FREE TIER USERS, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED ₹1,000.
17. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Milanse Private Limited, its directors, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your access to or use of the Platform; (b) your User Content; (c) your violation of these Terms; (d) your violation of any third-party rights, including privacy or intellectual property rights; or (e) any claim that your User Content caused harm to a third party.
18. Dispute Resolution & Arbitration
We encourage you to first contact us at legal@milanse.com to resolve any dispute informally. If informal resolution is not possible, the following applies:
Arbitration
Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms, or the breach, termination, or invalidity thereof, shall be settled by binding arbitration under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 (India), by a sole arbitrator mutually appointed by the parties. Arbitration shall be conducted in English in New Delhi, India. The arbitral award shall be final and binding.
Exceptions to Arbitration
Either party may seek emergency interim or injunctive relief from a competent court to prevent irreparable harm (e.g., to prevent ongoing harassment, IP infringement, or data breach). Such application for interim relief shall not be a waiver of the right to arbitration.
Class Action Waiver
YOU AGREE THAT ANY DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCEEDINGS WILL BE CONDUCTED ONLY ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND NOT IN A CLASS, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. You may not consolidate more than one person's claim with any claim or issue arising from or relating to these Terms.
19. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. For matters not subject to arbitration, the courts of New Delhi, India shall have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are accessing the Platform from outside India, you are responsible for compliance with your local laws.
20. Suspension & Termination
Either party may terminate this agreement at any time:
By You
You may delete your account at any time from Settings > Account > Delete Account. Upon deletion, your profile is immediately removed from search results and your data is handled per our Privacy Policy.
By Milanse
We may suspend or permanently terminate your account, without prior notice or liability, for: violation of these Terms; providing false information during registration or verification; engaging in prohibited conduct; being convicted of a serious crime; inactivity for more than 12 months (with prior notice); or any conduct we determine is harmful to other users, the Platform, or Milanse.
Effect of Termination
Upon termination, your right to use the Platform immediately ceases. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including intellectual property rights, disclaimer of warranties, limitation of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution.
No Refund on Termination for Cause
Accounts terminated for violation of these Terms are not entitled to any refund of subscription fees paid.
21. Amendments to These Terms
We may revise these Terms at any time. For material changes, we will provide at least 30 days' notice via in-app notification and email to your registered address. The revised Terms will include an updated "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of any revision constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree to the amended Terms, you must stop using the Platform and may delete your account.
22. General Provisions
- •Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Community Guidelines, Refund Policy, and Safety Tips, constitute the entire agreement between you and Milanse with respect to the Platform.
- •Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining provisions remain in full force.
- •No Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
- •Assignment: You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your rights hereunder without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- •Force Majeure: We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, government actions, internet outages, cyberattacks, or pandemic-related disruptions.
- •Language: These Terms are written in English. If translated, the English version shall prevail in case of any conflict.
- •No Partnership: Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, agency, franchise, or employment relationship between you and Milanse.

As required under the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, our Grievance Officer for user complaints relating to the Platform is:
